AFTERSWARM
Artist Statement
Our ecosystem can only function when all of its parts are working in unison. Western consumerism tends to favor the well being of a limited population with significant disregard to other people and species that keep the world thriving. This body of work concentrates on the fragility of our environment and how easily it can collapse with the absence of one single part.

The work is a reaction to the recent endangerment of the Honey Bee and the consequences of losing our main pollinators. The word “afterswarm” refers to the action of a colony of bees collectively leaving their hive when it has become unfit to live in.
The work demonstrates fragility while imitating processes and patterns of the Honey Bee through repetition and repetitive processes.
